Should I Go to the Gym During the Pandemic?- AFC Urgent Care

COVID-19 has made going anywhere more complicated than it has been in the past, and the gym is no exception. With almost all of us having to stay at home at some point this year, exercise has been harder to come by.

If you are wanting to get back in the gym, read on as our team at AFC Urgent Care Indian Trail provides some helpful information on exercise during the coronavirus.

Is the Gym Safe?

Typically, gyms are some of the higher-risk places you can go regarding the presence of COVID-19. Most local gyms, however, have implemented solid COVID-19 precautions to make working out a less risky experience.

If you are unsure if your local gym has implemented these precautions, give them a call before you arrive. Some common precautions that many gyms have taken include blocking off side-by-side machines, requiring attendees to wear a mask and thoroughly sanitizing after every machine use.

How to Keep Yourself Safe at the Gym

  • Wipe off equipment before and after use with alcohol wipes.
  • Use hand sanitizer between exercises.
  • Maintain six feet of social distance.
  • Wear your mask until you get to your machinery and when transferring from one piece of equipment to the next.

Are There Exercises that Are Safer Than Others?

Generally, the less you can touch the better. Decreasing the amount of contact that you have with frequently used workout equipment will increase your chance of not coming in contact with any harmful germs.

If going to the gym isn’t crucial for your exercises, try working out outdoors or in your home. There are many videos and bodyweight exercises that can help you yield great results.

Bodyweight Exercises That Build Muscle

  • Squats
