How Much Exercise Should I Be Getting on a Regular Basis?- AFC Urgent Care

Did you make out a list of resolutions for 2020? If you’re like many Americans, you’re looking to improve your health in the new year. That probably includes getting more exercise.

Our team at AFC Urgent Care Pineville wants to take a few minutes to share some tips and insight about exercise. Read on as we take a look!

Am I Getting Enough Exercise?

That’s a bit of a trick question—enough is subjective and depends quite a bit on your individual goals and health. But there are some basic standards for how much exercise we need.

Adults in general need to get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week for optimal health. That averages out to just more than 20 minutes per day, a really doable amount. When you get enough physical activity, your health will reap the benefits!

Benefits of Exercise

  • You feel happier.
  • You can maintain a healthy weight.
  • You’ll have stronger bones and muscles.
  • You can decrease your risk of certain diseases, such as heart disease.
  • You can improve your skin health.
  • You can boost your memory.

How Can I Find Exercise I’ll Stick With?

First and foremost, you need to experiment with different types of exercise until you find one or more that you really enjoy. That’s the most important thing you can do to ensure you’ll actually do the exercise. If you hate it, you aren’t likely to do it.

When you’re experimenting with exercise regimens and programs, be sure to include a full balance of exercise types to promote good overall health.

Types of Exercise

  • Cardiovascular activity (cardio)
  • Balance exercises
  • Strength training
  • Flexibility exercises
